Troopers in Saratoga County first encountered the man at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, while attempting to stop his vehicle for speeding on State Route 146A in the town of Clifton Park.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Schenectady County resident Panayiotis Menagias, of Glenville, refused to stop and troopers initiated a pursuit, police said.

During the chase, Menagias stopped several times, got out of his car, and threatened troopers with a hammer, according to police.

He was eventually arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including menacing a police officer, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and criminal possession of a weapon.

No officers were injured during the ordeal.

Menagias was issued an appearance ticket and was due back at the Clifton Park Town Court on Wednesday, July 20.

State Police turned him over to Schenectady Police for an active warrant.
